John,

When Sheriff Paul Penzone first took over after the Arpaio-Sheridan administration’s disastrous tenure, there was a long list of programs that required immediate change.

That’s why after an external review, Sheriff Penzone closed the infamous Tent City. It was found to be costly, ineffective and did not improve public safety or outcomes.

Today, housed in the area where Tent City used to be, is the MOSAIC program. It helps those who are incarcerated to not only get the mental health they need, but substance abuse rehabilitation that could otherwise be crippling. And the program is working. Statistics show that among participants in the program there is a 20% reduction in recidivism versus the general jail population. That’s good for communities and it’s good for taxpayers.

That’s what’s at stake in this election, programs like MOSAIC, which not only help inmates now, but keep them out of incarceration in the future.

Our opponent is more focused on bringing back failed programs like Tent City than evidence-based solutions to reduce recidivism. This shouldn’t be a surprise to us coming from Arpaio’s former right-hand man.

We’ve made a lot of progress to move our community forward, but all of that could go away if Jerry Sheridan wins. Can you chip in to protect our progress and keep us moving in the right direction? There’s too much at stake to come up short.
