John,

Steve King just released his latest publicity stunt: a video rationalizing the inhumane treatment of immigrants, refugees, and asylum seekers at the border. [[link removed]]

We’ve seen children torn from the arms of their mothers, locked up in cages, and forced to sleep on concrete floors with tin foil blankets while lacking proper food and hygiene. We’ve heard sworn testimony of Border Patrol agents telling people to drink from the toilets because the water fountain was broken. We’ve seen a study -- published just yesterday -- confirming that these horrific conditions are leaving children traumatized, with severe psychological and emotional deficits and PTSD.

This is the heartlessness that Steve King is attempting to excuse. And in a callous attempt at humor, Steve King drank toilet water at one of the detention facilities in El Paso to prove that our treatment of the men, women, and children at the border is perfectly acceptable (it’s not).

There is no excuse for forcing any human being to drink out of a toilet. There is no excuse for the inhumane treatment of those who are fleeing violence from their home countries. We are better than this.

Our campaign is about treating all people with dignity, respect, and compassion. That’s what we do as Americans. And that’s what we do as people of this shared planet.

This is important -- we need you with us. Watch the video and chip in whatever you can so we can replace Steve King. [[link removed]]

Join me and let's stand up for what’s right,
