We hope everyone stayed safe during Dorian and that no one sustained any home damage. We hope we are as lucky continuing through hurricane season!
The office will re-open tomorrow, Friday, September 6th for normal business hours 10 a.m. – 12 p.m. and 1 p.m. – 3 p.m.
HELPING THE BAHAMAS
Thankfully we escaped the worst of the hurricane, but those in the Bahamas were not so lucky. Here is a great link on how to help our neighbors.

There are many organizations out there taking donations, but some may be scams. If you are sure a charity is legitimate, you can check them on the Florida Department of Agriculture and Consumer Services - Check a Charity website. The link is below.

TAXPAYER LUNCHEON
One of our goals this year is to have a greater presence at community events. The Taxpayers’ Association of Indian River County has historically been a Republican-dominated group. But the speakers are elected officials and community members working on important projects, like the health of our lagoon. We should all be attending their meetings to hear these speakers.
At this month’s meeting, the speaker will be Dr. Susan Moxley, Interim Superintendent for the School District of Indian River County. She will be giving an update on the state of our school district.
Let’s pack the house with Democrats!
Date: September 11, 2019
Time: 11:45 a.m.
Location: Vero Beach Country Club, 800 30th Street, Vero Beach
Cost: $19 for lunch (lunch is optional)
RSVP to: Stuart Kennedy at [email protected]
MOVIE NIGHT AT HEADQUARTERS
On September 20th at 5:30 p.m. we will be hosting a movie night at the office! In honor of the upcoming 100th year anniversary of the Women’s Suffrage movement, we will be showing “Iron Jawed Angels”, a movie detailing the struggles women went through to get the right to vote. Please bring your own drinks and money to contribute for pizza. Space is limited so please RSVP to Stacey at [email protected]
GALA 2020 COMMITTEE
The Gala Committee is currently looking for someone to Chair our Auction Committee. This is an impactful position and will allow for a more expanded committee of participants. We are also looking for volunteers to help our Gala 2020 Chair, Steve Lieberman, plan our Gala. If you like event planning and have some free time, please contact Steve at [email protected] The Gala will be at the Moorings on February 23, 2020 and is always a great evening!
COFFEE WITH THE MAYOR
Main Street of Vero Beach hosts Coffee with the Mayor once a month. It is a great networking opportunity and a chance for attendees to advertise local events and businesses. It is also good to hear what is going on in Indian River County from the mayor. It is important for Democrats in our county to attend and let the mayor know we are part of this community, too. See the flyer below for details and please attend!
DEMOCRAT OWNED BUSINESSES
We are currently working on a list of businesses in Indian River County that are owned by Democrats. If you have a business, or know of a business, please email the business name, owner name, address, phone number and website to [email protected] Let’s support our local Democrats!
If you would like a copy of the list, we have them at the office, so stop on by and get one!
POSEY MEET AND GREET
The Bill Posey Victory Team is having a meet and greet. If you would like to finally meet your Congressman in person, please see the flyer below. And don’t forget to wear your Democrats of Indian River t-shirt for the picture!
TIME TO REGISTER VOTERS!
It’s time to start knocking on doors and registering voters! In September, we will begin knocking on the doors of the 700+ Florida Democratic Party identified unregistered voters.
Canvassing will take place on the following dates:
Thursday, September 12
Wednesday, September 18
Monday, September 23
We will meet at Headquarters (2345 14th Ave., Suite 7, Vero Beach) at 5 p.m. If you are not currently trained to register voters, we will do the training before heading out.
If you plan to canvass, you will need a smartphone with mapping capability.
If canvassing door to door is not your cup of tea, we would also like to start having a table at the libraries to register voters at least once a week. If you are interested in this, please send Stacey an email at [email protected]
