Our country is on fire.
Literally:
- There are currently 79 large wildfires actively burning in California, Colorado, Idaho, Montana, Nevada, Oregon, South Dakota, Utah, Washington, and Wyoming.
- So far this year, one out of every 33 acres in the state of California has burned.
- In Oregon, over 40,000 residents have had to flee their homes.
- Smoke from the fires has spread all the way across the country, reaching Pennsylvania, New York, and Maryland.
- Five of the 10 largest wildfires in California’s entire history — including THE largest ever — have happened just this year.
The science could not be clearer. The burning of fossil fuels is making the Earth hotter. That makes trees and other vegetation drier. And those conditions make wildfires start more easily, burn hotter, and spread faster.
The next president — whoever it is — must ban all executives, lobbyists, and other representatives of the fossil fuel industry from serving in any capacity in his administration.
