Dear Friend,
Government should serve and be representative of people, not big corporations. Instead, large donors now dominate elections in the United States, silencing the voices of average Americans and making government unresponsive to the people’s needs.
Vast majorities of the American people want the government to lower drug prices, raise the minimum wage, protect the planet, deliver health care to all, and accomplish so much more, but action is stalled because those demands conflict with the interests of a corporate class superpowered by the Citizens United v. Federal Election Commission decision, which opened the floodgates to corporate spending in elections. With more than 800 cities and 20 states -- representing 141 million Americans -- calling for a federal constitutional amendment to overturn Citizens United, the movement now has overwhelming popular support, and we need your support to push this forward.
Call your U.S. representative at 1-866-937-7983 and urge them to overturn Citizens United.
On June 6, New Hampshire became the 20th state to call on Congress to pass a constitutional amendment to address the harm caused by the Supreme Court’s Citizens United v. FEC decision and related cases. New Hampshire joins 19 other states and more than 800 localities across the country that have passed similar resolutions and other actions since 2010.
The United States government needs to be responsive to the people, not to corporations and special interests. That’s why we need to overturn Citizens United. To do so, we’ll have to take on the billionaires who want democracy to remain an auction and urge Congress to act.
Tell your member of Congress at 1-866-937-7983 to ensure our government works for the people, not corporations.
Yours in the fight for democracy,
Mai, along with Analeeza, Annie, Brenna, Caitlin, Deepthi, Diego, Eddie, Gabby, Lindsay, Mary, Molly, Raquel, and Scottie (the Courage Campaign team) |
