John, America needs farmers and farmers need antitrust. It's that simple, John, and it's one of the core reasons why J.D. is running for Congress. We wanted to make sure you saw J.D.'s message, and ask for your help getting the word out to voters. Can you chip in $5 or more now to help keep our ad on air so we can reach as many Iowans as possible? And if you haven't watched our ad yet, please do! Together, we can fix this broken system and create change for every farmer, every worker, and every family in IA-04. Thanks, Team Scholten ---------- Forwarded message --------- From: J.D. Scholten Date: Wed, Sep 16, 2020 Subject: Check this out- John, I've said it dozens of times and I'll say it again: America needs farmers and farmers need antitrust. Without strong antitrust enforcement, capitalism fails. It allows a few players to control the terms of the marketplace in everything from worker wages to prices for farmers. It stifles innovation and competition. It makes it almost impossible for the little guy to enter the marketplace. Just take a look at the meatpacking industry. In cattle, 4 companies control 85% of the market. During this pandemic, they’ve created unsafe, dangerous working conditions at their plants and failed to pay farmers a fair price while raking in record profits. How? Because they wield so much power. That’s why we need strong antitrust laws! Iowa farmers know how badly this failure has affected our local, rural economies -- and so do I. Without reform, our communities will continue to suffer the consequences of concentrated, corporate power. That's why I'm committed to introducing and passing robust antitrust reform in Congress. We're launching a new ad to bring awareness to the resilience of farmers as well as my commitment to modernizing our outdated laws. Take 30 seconds to watch it -- and if you like what you hear, chip in after to help keep it on the air so I can deliver for our communities. We need to elect leaders brave enough to take on the status quo and demand the change we need. Thank you. Standing Tall for All, J.D. |
