Republicans in Ohio just enacted one of the most transparent voter suppression measures we’ve seen yet: forcing residents who want to vote by mail to buy their own stamps.
It’s a move that feels like adding insult to injury after the many ways the GOP has already worked to suppress the vote this election: passing racist voter ID laws, closing polling places (especially in neighborhoods of color), and conducting targeted voter roll purges. These are just a few ways the Republican Party has worked to keep Democratic ballots from ever reaching the ballot box.
Progressive Majority is working every day to make sure Republicans don’t succeed in taking away your right to vote safely. With so many swing states up for grabs -- states like Michigan, Wisconsin, Florida, and Pennsylvania -- we must do everything we can to increase voter turnout and support grassroots, progressive campaigns throughout the country. With your help, that’s exactly what we’ve been doing.
But we can’t let ourselves forget that Donald Trump raised more in 2019 than any Democrat running for president -- and his coffers are still growing. Corporate special interests and their dark money PACs have held back progress on everything from dealing with climate change to reforming our elections, and they’re lining up behind Trump and Republicans to try to keep the GOP in power. There is an unimaginable sum of money yet to be spent on defeating progressives and endlessly smearing Joe Biden and Kamala Harris before November 3.
At such a critical time, we can’t afford to fall behind on our grassroots fundraising goals. From saving USPS to expanding access to health care to protecting the right to vote -- the stakes are just too high. Unfortunately, Progressive Majority is currently $2,014 short of our grassroots fundraising goal. If we fall behind now, we may need to cut critical infrastructure and scale back our outreach to progressive voters like you.
