Student Sleep Health Week Raises Awareness of Importance of Sleep
|
|
Sleep, one of the three pillars of a healthy lifestyle, directly impacts the health and well-being of your student community. In fact, a recent survey from the American Academy of Sleep Medicine (AASM) found that 44% of parents believe sleep has a large impact on their children’s physical and mental health. As students return to school – whether in-person, online or in a hybrid format – now is the perfect time to establish healthy sleep routines to best equip students for success – both in the classroom, and out.
School nurses are crucial in both providing immediate care and fostering healthy lifestyle habits for the students within their community. To kick off the school year strong, NASN is partnering with the AASM for the inaugural Student Sleep Health Week, September 14-20. Learn more.

Navigating Teen Depression and Substance Use as a Family
7 p.m. ET September 23
The relationship between depression and substance use is complicated, and even teenagers get caught in the tangle. Whether an adolescent turned to substances to self-medicate or use of substances led to developing symptoms of depression, we know that the combination increases the risk for both self-harm and suicide attempts. When a teen you love is dealing with both, what can you do?
In this webinar from Families for Depression Awareness, David Blair LCSW, CACIII, AAMFT, and Jamie Blair Echevarria, LCSW, LMFT, CACIII, cover how caring adults can fully engage in the process of prevention and treatment for adolescent substance use and depression. This program is designed for parents, guardians, family members, youth workers, and any caring adults interested in teen mental health.
