John,
Donald Trump has ripped Social Security’s dedicated funding away, laying a trap for the next Presidential administration.
Democrats have a way to fight back BEFORE the election: By passing a resolution of disapproval to overturn the IRS notification that it won’t collect Social Security contributions.
This isn’t a messaging bill. If passed, Social Security’s funding would be restored and the crisis Trump created would be over.
But it’s also critical because Congressional Republicans have been largely silent since Trump raided Social Security’s funding for some meager, poorly targeted stimulus. This vote would force them to choose a side: Loyalty to Trump or loyalty to Social Security.
We’re working to get this resolution to the floor in the House and the Senate. Can you chip in $7 to our campaign to save Social Security from Trump?
Rep. John Larson (D-CT), chairman of the House subcommittee on Social Security, has already introduced the resolution in the House. It could be voted on before the end of the month. This is a sprint, and we need to put everything into it.
And unlike many other bills in Mitch McConnell’s Senate, this isn’t automatically dead on arrival. Before Trump’s order, Republican Senators from Chuck Grassley to Rand Paul condemned these attacks on payroll contributions because of their direct impact on Social Security. We can win this. But it’s going to take all of us.
Chip in $7 today to overrule Trump’s plot to defund and destroy Social Security!
Thanks,
Michael Phelan Social Security Works
