I recently wrote about Maryland’s proud history of fighting for the right to vote and what it means for us in a moment when those rights are under attack.
Frederick Douglass, Thurgood Marshall and Clarence Mitchell Jr. helped secure rights that generations of Americans had been denied.
Now, Trump and his Republican allies are attacking that legacy. Republican states are redrawing congressional maps to protect his majority, while Trump’s handpicked Supreme Court justices have weakened voting rights protections and opened the door to the elimination of Black representation.
Maryland cannot stand by. This November, we must vote YES on Question 3.
Question 3 gives Maryland voters the power to decide whether our state should have the tools to respond to Trump’s power grab. It gives us a chance to level the playing field and help elect a Congress that will protect our communities and hold this president accountable.
In states like Texas and Florida, Republicans redrew their maps at Trump’s direction without asking voters. Here in Maryland, our Democratic leaders have put the choice in your hands.
I believe in national redistricting reform. But we cannot surrender our ability to respond while Republicans rig the rules. And we cannot gamble our hard-fought rights on the hope that this administration will suddenly develop a conscience. Black communities will be among the first to pay the price if we fail to act.
Will you join me and the Maryland Democratic Party in voting YES on Question 3?
Sign the pledge to vote here.
