"Oven ready". That was what Boris Johnson claimed his deal was back in December, John.
And yet, this week we’ve seen the utterly farcical situation of the same Tory MPs who were told in December that they had to vote for the Withdrawal Agreement are being told they have to vote against it.
Even worse, they’ve voted in favour of the UK breaking international law.
It really does beggar belief.
And it’s part of a pattern.
From the unlawful prorogation of Parliament, to breaking lockdown to test one’s eyesight, to an utter disregard for international law: Boris Johnson’s government have made it very clear that it is one rule for them and another for everyone else.
For a government to break the law at any time would be unacceptable. But right now it’s unbelievably irresponsible.
I was proud to lead the eleven Lib Dem MPs through the voting lobbies to vote against the absurd Internal Market bill.
I’m also proud that for almost four years, the Liberal Democrats have marched, campaigned and voted to stop Brexit and keep us in Europe.
We did that because it was right. We did that because we believe in tearing down walls, not building them.
Back in January, the Brexit story didn’t end. We just started a new chapter.
That’s why in Parliament, your team of Liberal Democrat MPs are focusing on opposing Boris Johnson’s efforts to break the law, preventing a no-deal Brexit, and stopping any rushed Brexit deal that would be bad for the country we love so much.
And I promise you this. We’ll never turn our back on our pro-European values.
Best wishes,
Ed Davey
Leader of the Liberal Democrats
