SacDSACon2020 is upon us! We're excited to announce over 100 members from Sacramento have registered for the convention! Over 100 socialists in a zoom meeting, what could go wrong?!
In addition to voting on critical political endorsements, chapter leadership, and political proposals we will have some entertainment in the form of zoom bingo, lip sync contests and a keynote speech by member and City Councilor Elect Katie Valenzuela.

Sept. 17: DSA Night School- "Queer 101"
The LGBTQIA+ community is more misunderstood than ever with the rise of this administration’s attacks on individuals who are perceived as “abnormal”, different and resistant to the normalcy of heterosexuality. But what is being queer? This course will cover a basic understanding of queer identities, queer politics and queer theory; hopefully creating a foundation for a queer analysis applicable to mainstream conversations. What is the connection between queerness and women’s rights? How is queerness tied to resistance against a capitalist state? How can the politics of normativity be applied to homosexuality and what are the effects of normalization?

Join our Healthcare Committee meeting in growing the local Medicare for All movement and getting our representatives (Matsui and Bera) to support Medicare for All.

Sept. 20: Chapter Convention
Our local convention will be Sunday September 20th from 11:00am to 3:30pm (with breaks!) We’ll be voting on chapter leadership, bylaw amendments and political resolutions for our chapter that will guide us into the next year. We're excited to also be hosting a few guest speakers including Sac DSA member and City Councilor Elect Katie Valenzuela and more!
In order to attend, you must register. On the local convention website, you’ll also find the full convention packet which includes: resolutions & amendments, bylaw amendments, draft convention rules, and Executive Board candidates.

Sept. 23: Racial Solidarity Committee Meeting We need your help to drive the direction of the committee going forward! Bring your productive criticisms, ideas, and thoughts about how we can fight racism and capitalism in Sacramento!

Join the Media and Communication Committee during this meeting to discuss upcoming media and graphics projects and the formation of a social media team.

Capitalism stands in opposition to containing the spread of Coronavirus. This class will overview COVID-19’s impact on our communities and address how collective care plus mutual aid initiatives will help save lives.

Sept. 26: Phonebank for Prop. 15
Join Sacramento, Yolo, and UC Davis YDSA chapters to make calls to voters in support of Prop 15- The Schools and Communities First Act
Billionaires and corporations in California have exploited a lucrative property tax loophole created by Proposition 13 since 1978. Prop 15 will put an end to this and generate $10-12 BILLION for California's chronically underfunded public schools and community services. Join us and together we can #TaxTheRich!

Sept. 26: Eco-Socialism Committee Meeting
Come out to organize against local fossil fuel interests, including SMUD and PG&E. We will also be discussing leadership for the future of the committee.

Sept. 27: Community Response Committee Meeting Join other DSA members as we organize around the current pandemic. We will discuss community projects including the people's budget campaign and local CARES act budgeting.

Sept. 27: Electoral Committee Meeting
Join the newly formed Electoral Committee as we organize campaigns and ballot measures that Sacramento DSA has endorsed, conduct internal organizing on socialist electoral strategy, and facilitate the endorsement process for candidates and ballot measures.
