Meeting videos, images, and summaries appear below the articles JERUSALEM'S WARNING TO AMERICA The Greatest Threat to God's People Comes from Within Jane and I returned home this evening after eight remarkable days in Jerusalem. This past Saturday, we rose at 5 AM for a day at Masada, the ancient mountain fortress overlooking the Dead Sea. For our friends back in Oklahoma, it was still Friday evening at nine o'clock. We returned to our hotel that afternoon, finished packing, and headed for the Tel Aviv airport to begin our journey home. The next 21 hours were consumed by airports, airplanes, and the exhausting business of international travel. Now, some 48 hours after our early morning departure for Masada, Jane and I are finally home and once again entertaining the wonderful prospect of a good night's sleep. However, there is one observation from Israel that I cannot allow to pass without comment. THE GREATEST DANGER TO THE PEOPLE OF GOD HAS NEVER BEEN THE STRENGTH OF THEIR ENEMIES. IT HAS BEEN THE SPIRITUAL CONDITION OF GOD'S PEOPLE THEMSELVES. The destruction of Jerusalem by the Babylonians in 586 BC followed generations of covenantal rebellion, idolatry, and the rejection of God's prophets. The magnificent Temple constructed by Solomon was reduced to ruins. The nation was conquered. Its people were carried into captivity. God’s people ignored both the written and the prophetic word spoken by God’s prophets. Centuries later, Jerusalem again suffered catastrophic destruction, this time at the hands of the Romans in AD 70. The Second Temple, rebuilt after the Babylonian exile and later expanded by Herod, was destroyed. Standing in Jerusalem and looking upon the ancient stones surrounding the Temple Mount, I saw those physical ruins. They bear witness to the spiritual realities which led to the political and military events that produced them. THE CENTRAL QUESTION IS NOT WHAT OUR ENEMIES INTEND TO DO TO US. IT IS WHAT WE HAVE DONE WITH THE TRUTH GOD HAS ENTRUSTED TO US. That question should haunt the American church. We are quick to identify the threats confronting Western civilization: secularism, Marxism, moral confusion, political corruption, and the growing hostility toward biblical Christianity. While these threats are real, there is a fundamental threat to our churches, our families, our Christian institutions, and our schools. THE FUNDAMENTAL THREAT We have surrendered biblical authority while congratulating ourselves for defending Christian civilization. We have accommodated the very philosophies we publicly condemn. The Apostle Peter wrote that judgment begins with the household of God (1 Peter 4:17). THE BIBLICAL HISTORY OF ISRAEL LEAVES NO DOUBT THAT SPIRITUAL UNFAITHFULNESS HAS MATERIAL CONSEQUENCES Jerusalem's ancient ruins should remind us that no civilization, however magnificent, is sustained by its institutions alone. America's greatest need is not simply stronger political leadership, better legislation, or victory over its ideological enemies. It is a church that has recovered its confidence in the authority of God's Word and its willingness to obey it. For the people of God, the first battlefield is always within. And that is the lesson from Jerusalem I bring home to Oklahoma. Surely judgment, both now and then, begins at the church of God! ~ I Peter 4:17 DR. EVERETT PIPER from Sunday, October 11, 2026 WHAT WE NEED IS REVIVAL, NOT REVOLUTION The news from France this past week was not lacking for images of insanity. Who among us didn't hang our heads in utter despair as we watched a nation’s youth dance on their culture’s own grave? How do we make sense of the madness? How did we get to this point? In a word (or rather two or three), the answer is, “the hatred and self-worship that undergirds secular socialism.” The Russian philosopher Semyon Frank once captured this perhaps more clearly than anyone else: Sacrificing himself for the sake of an idea, [the socialist] does not hesitate to sacrifice other people for it. Among his contemporaries he sees either the victims of the world's evil he dreams of eradicating or the perpetrators of that evil.... This feeling of hatred for the enemies of the people forms the concrete and active psychological foundation of his life. Thus, the great love… of the future gives birth to a great hatred for people; the passion for organizing an earthly paradise becomes a passion for destruction. Benjamin Wiker, author of Ten Books that Screwed Up the Word, concurs: “[Socialist] hatred,” he says, “[is] directed at a real object: the people who [stand] in the way” Wiker goes on to contend that the civilizational suicide we are presently watching . . . is caused by notions that the world [needs] be saved from and for something. To save the world from political impotence, Machiavelli would have us embrace effective brutality. To save the world from skepticism, Descartes would have us become both more skeptical... To save the world from industrial oppression, Marx and Lenin would have us annihilate half the world in revolution. To save the world from disease, poverty, and every social ill, Margaret Sanger and Adolf Hitler would have us eliminate the hordes of "unfit." To save the world from male oppression, Betty Friedan would have women kill their offspring. Wiker adds that socialism’s self-destructive duplicity is obvious. All we need to do to see it is to juxtapose our utopian dreams with the haunting reality that we all still know that “something is wrong and it needs to be righted; [that] there's something profoundly wrong with us, some crack or deep taint.., a terrible twist that begins in the soul and curls its way outward.” “The cracks in the soul,” argues Wiker, “become more visible when they are ignored. They become most visible when the twisted soul tries to rid the world of the very idea that each individual has a soul accountable to God. The twisted soul does this in order to deny its own twistedness... [Those] who have taken a turn at twisting the screws that have screwed up the world all have this in common. They all deny sin,” and, thus, Paris burns. Wiker concludes: The ideas of God and sin might all seem too mythical for this scientific age until we recall that… if we create ourselves in the image of the savage, we end up with unimagined savagery. But there is always hope. A last word from Wiker: “When much of the world lies convulsed and broken upon the rock-hard certainties of so many secular political utopian schemes… the old ‘myths’ now seem to have a curious ring of truth…. “Perhaps by reversing the image of insanity and holding it up to a different light we can recover some outline of sanity.” “Perhaps we are not merely animals as Darwin would have it... Perhaps we are not ghosts in machines, as Descartes contends, but some other strange and glorious creature, something godlike but with two feet on the ground.” “Yet, being something god-like, we are not, as Nietzsche would have it, gods ourselves, but something far less, a faint but glowing resemblance to Someone else infinitely more resplendent. “Perhaps there are dark corridors of our hearts that must be uncovered and exposed to light..., the light that comes from another heart illumined by puncture and resurrection.” “Perhaps we do need a final revolution, [but not one] as Marx and Lenin would have it, but a revolution from within and from above...” “Perhaps, as Nietzsche howled, God did indeed die, but rose again, an Übermensch of a very different kind, one that can save us from the madness of our own making.” The take-home here is simple: If the current situation in France proves anything, it is this: A socialist revolution will never save us from ourselves. The only thing that will “reverse this image of insanity” is a Christian revival.
