Two people in Pennsylvania, one reportedly an infant, have just died of measles. Both were unvaccinated.
And Robert F. Kennedy Jr. stood before a crowd in Lancaster and said, “The cure for measles is chicken soup.”
This is what happens when conspiracy theorists are given power over public health. Measles is the most contagious human virus. It can cause pneumonia, brain swelling, and death. The measles, mumps, and rubella vaccine provides 97% lifetime protection after two doses. Chicken soup does not.
I have a Ph. D. in microbiology. I spent my career studying pathogens, disease, and the systems that protect people’s health. I know the difference between evidence and a dangerous talking point — and Washington desperately needs leaders who do, too.
When people at the highest levels of government treat proven medicine like a culture-war prop, families pay the price. We cannot shrug off the deaths in Lancaster County or allow RFK Jr. to keep spreading misinformation without real accountability.
Facts matter. Science matters. And lives depend on leaders acting like it.
