All children deserve to be safe and treated humanely, including those seeking safety in our country. Tell Congress and the president – violations of children’s rights must stop!

Hi John -

One of the most important things kids are taught at an early age is the importance of playing by the rules.

What goes for kids should go for the U.S. government. But right now, the Trump administration is doing anything but following the rules when it comes to respecting the legal rights of children seeking asylum in the U.S.

Since the start of the pandemic, the administration has expelled nearly 9,000 unaccompanied children who were seeking safety in the U.S.[1] This goes against legal safeguards, like the Trafficking Victims Protection Reauthorization Act (TVPRA), put in place protect these vulnerable children from suffering any further harm.

Unaccompanied children are being held in hotel rooms without proper oversight before being summarily deported.[2] A federal judge ruled that the use of hotels to detain children violates the Flores Settlement Agreement – a twenty-year-old settlement that regulates the treatment of children in custody – and that ICE must release these children to properly licensed facilities.

A federal judge has also ruled that children must be released from detention centers where they face a risk of contracting coronavirus.[3] For over a month now, the Department of Homeland Security has illegally ignored this ruling.

We need Congress to act.

Send a message to your members of Congress to investigate these violations and to the Trump administration to stop treating children inhumanely!

Children – no matter where they are from – deserve to be treated humanely and protected from harm.

Yet the Trump administration is seeking to gut these protections as well as others that protect children from being the victims of human trafficking.

These children are counting on us to speak out!

Tell your members of Congress and the Trump administration – children seeking safety in the U.S. have rights that must be protected!

Thank you for being a voice for kids,
