John: I'm Sara Gideon - and in a moment, I'm going to ask you to donate to my campaign to defeat Republican Sen. Susan Collins in Maine. But first, let me tell you why I'm running.

Susan Collins' first priority isn't the people of Maine - it's falling in line with Mitch McConnell's right-wing agenda. She threatened the future of reproductive freedoms when she voted to confirm Brett Kavanaugh to the Supreme Court. And she agreed to help line the pockets of the wealthiest 1% by rubber-stamping the GOP tax scam.

Mainers deserve a senator who will fight for them. They deserve leadership they can trust. This has been the guiding principle for my service on town council, in the state legislature and as Maine's Speaker of the House. And now, with the fourth poll in a row showing us leading against Collins - I'm asking you to take a chance on me so we can give Maine's families a voice in Washington and flip the Senate blue.

Your support thus far is making a huge difference. But this race is a toss-up within the margin of error, and my team needs to raise $25,000 by midnight to make sure we can continue pulling ahead in this critical race. That's why my friend Catherine suggested I reach out to you:

This campaign is powered by grassroots donors like you, John. So, I'm asking: Can I count on you to give $5 today to help me unseat Susan Collins - so Catherine and I can help flip the Senate blue? The future of the Supreme Court is on the line.

Democrats need just four more seats to flip the Senate blue - and Nate Silver's FiveThirtyEight ranked Maine as one of the most flippable seat in the country. But with Senate control and the future of the Supreme Court hinging on what happens in Maine, right-wing GOP allies are investing millions in special interest and dark-money dollars to defeat me and buy Collins another term.

We cannot afford to give Susan Collins another two years to prop up Mitch McConnell's chokehold on the Senate. But unlike Collins, our campaign is a people-powered campaign and relies on grassroots donations, not special-interest dark money or corporate PAC checks. So with time running out on our $25,000 deadline, I'm personally asking for your help today.
