MYTH: 'Climate solutions are too expensive to deal with now.'
Generation Progress

Hey John,

"Climate solutions are too expensive to deal with now."

Right...

That’s another myth we hear from climate deniers on why they have been ignoring the climate crisis for quite some time now. “It’s too expensive.” “We don’t have the resources for this.” “We should focus on other, more pressing issues.” We’ve heard it all before.

What’s actually expensive is the cost of the climate crisis if we don’t act now—every day we delay, solutions get costlier. One study estimates that if we fail to act on climate now and reduce greenhouse gas emissions, the climate crisis could cost the United States at least $244 BILLION per year by 2090. That sounds like a whole lot of money to me.

The longer we wait, the more damage will be done, and rectifying things will be much more expensive.

TWEET THE FACTS

In the words of Sen. Richard Shelby: “I believe the science must be firmly grounded before we take any actions that could seriously cripple many sectors of our economy.” Lucky for him, the science IS grounded, so he and his colleagues can get started on addressing the climate crisis head on.

Fortunately, some of our elected leaders recognize the severity of this crisis and have put forth bold, sweeping plans for how they intend to fix this problem. Others have stuck their heads in the sand and pretended like nothing is wrong.

We don’t have time to wait. We can't afford NOT to act on climate change—our lives and livelihoods are on the line.

Join us as we call out the climate deniers in power and teach them that the climate crisis is here, now, and something needs to be done about it. Head to the “types of denial” section of GetTheFactsOut.com and share the truth.
