Anonymous, The Trump administration is letting oil and gas companies freely leak methane into our atmosphere -- a move that could lead to an additional 850,000 tons of planet-warming methane in our atmosphere in just 10 years. That's right: 850,000 more tons of methane, a potent greenhouse gas, in our atmosphere by 2030. From hurricanes to wildfires, we're already feeling the consequences of climate change. Now is not the time to allow even more climate-warming emissions into our atmosphere. Tell our senators to block the Trump administration's dangerous new methane rule. Thanks for making it all possible, Hannah Collazo
Anonymous, The Trump administration just rolled back another environmental protection -- this time, it's letting oil and gas companies leak methane without detecting or repairing the leaks. An unreported, unrepaired methane leak sounds bad enough, but the reality is even worse. Methane leaks are one of the biggest contributors to global warming -- and the Environmental Protection Agency estimates that this rule will lead to an increased 850,000 tons of planet-warming methane leaked into our atmosphere in just 10 years.1 We can't afford to let another rollback speed up global warming. Will you tell our senators to block this dangerous new rule today? The president is putting profits before our planet. It's estimated that with this rule, oil and gas industry profits would increase by as much $100 million each year until at least 2030.2 But oil and gas companies don't need a break -- our planet does. In the past 20 years, 25 percent of human-caused global warming came from methane.3 We've seen the environmental damage inflicted by the oil and gas industry when it was regulated. It's hard to imagine a world where industry is free to leak methane without reporting or repairing the leaks -- that's why we need our senators to block this rule now. Tell Sens. Gardner and Bennet to protect our planet from methane leaks. We have to do everything we can to block this dangerous new rule -- and our senators have the power to oppose it. Scientists warn that we're already emitting enough methane to offset the carbon dioxide reductions promised in the Paris climate agreement.4 If we don't block this rule, we're destined to make the problem even worse. We can't afford another 850,000 tons of methane leaked into our atmosphere. Our senators must block this dangerous new methane rule if we want to prevent the irreversible damage to our environment.
