Fight back against disinformation and the suppression of truth.

7 weeks until #Election2020. STOP disinformation and the suppression of truth now. Fight back with
Free Press Action

With seven weeks left until Election Day, the essential information we need to make informed decisions and stay healthy is being actively suppressed and distorted.

Fox News and QAnon conspiracy theorists are actively spreading disinformation and engaging in voter suppression. Violent white-supremacist militias are recruiting people on Facebook to bring weapons to Black Lives Matter protests. Unchecked and racist political ads are running rampant on social-media platforms.

These next few weeks are critical to preserving democracy and the fight for a just media — which is why a generous donor has issued a challenge to all of our supporters: MAKE A SMALL WEEKLY DONATION to help us fight disinformation, online hate and the suppression of truth. Your donation will be TRIPLED EVERY SINGLE WEEK from now through Election Day.

Make a weekly gift of $5, $10, even $25 right now and have 3x the impact for the next seven weeks.

Amid a pandemic and a national uprising against systemic racism, our country has a critical decision to make this November. This is why, through Election Day, Free Press is focused on one goal: fighting disinformation, online hate and the suppression of truth.

Over the next seven weeks, your critical weekly gift will support our efforts to:

  • Sue the Trump administration to block its efforts to silence social-media platforms in retaliation for fact checking Trump’s statements and enforcing their policies against hate.
  • Launch a massive campaign to hold Facebook accountable for its role in spreading hateful disinformation and violence by urging the company to ban and remove all hate groups and event pages promoting “calls to arms” rallies.
  • Run trainings for journalists over the next seven weeks to help them better cover white-supremacist and militia movements, the threats Facebook poses in the run-up to the election, and the ongoing fight for racial justice.
  • Go to battle against Charter and Comcast over their attempts to institute data caps that would put affordable internet access farther out of reach for millions of people in the United States — cutting them off from essential information when we all need it most.
  • Expose the media’s role in suppressing truth through the spread of disinformation on mail-in voting, COVID-19, law enforcement overreach and more; put pressure on advertisers and platforms alike.
  • Launch the groundbreaking Media 2070: Media Reparations project, an in-depth research essay and organizing hub visibilizing the ways that U.S. media have taken part in anti-Black state violence and harm. Led by our Black colleagues, our team has worked for the last year to document and analyze these harms, laying the groundwork for dreaming a reparative future.

We can’t let politicians’ and corporations’ efforts to spread disinformation, fuel hate and division and suppress the truth win. Just seven weeks remain until Election Day. Please support this critical work with a weekly donation of any amount — and a generous donor will TRIPLE every gift made through Election Day.

Too much is at stake for us to miss this matching-gift goal. Every donation makes a difference — make a weekly gift today to help us raise $25,000 over the next seven weeks.

In solidarity,

Jessica J. González
