I hope this message finds you safe during these challenging times. The wildfires in Oregon have taken precious lives and destroyed many homes across the state. My heart goes out to all who have been affected -- and my deepest appreciation goes to those on the frontlines fighting the fires and providing critical support.

So many of you are reaching out, donating supplies and money, taking in displaced family friends and neighbors. Thank you! And, my office -- the Oregon Department of Justice -- is doing everything we can to assist in the state response.

Here's some hopefully helpful information:

Updates: Like so many others, I am continuing to watch the weather and the progress firefighters have made in containment efforts across the state. Please follow updates and recommendations from local officials. To get live text updates, you can text your zip code to 888777. The state has an exhaustive list of Oregon wildfire resources ([link removed]), too.

Displaced voters: The Secretary of State has released important information for displaced voters ([link removed]). Oregonians should know that you have until the voter registration deadline, October 13th, to decide where you want your ballot sent if you're unable to receive mail at home or aren't returning there (while remaining registered in the district of your damaged/lost homes). You can make the address change online in just a couple of minutes using MyVote MYVote ([link removed]).

Donating (Please be careful!) and volunteering: If you are safe and able to help, consider volunteering or donating to organizations that are providing critical support. Here are suggestions:

Donate to the Oregon Food Bank ([link removed]) to help them feed residents impacted by fires, first responders, and volunteers supporting fire relief.

Donate to the Wildland Firefighter Foundation ([link removed]) to support injured firefighters and the families of deceased firefighters.

Donate to the 2020 Community Rebuilding Fund ([link removed]) to support mid- and long-term recovery, especially for Oregon's most vulnerable communities

If you're a medical professional, you can volunteer with the state to provide medical care ([link removed]) to people impacted by fires (along with COVID-19) through the State Emergency Registry of Volunteers in Oregon (SERV-OR) program.
