Dear Friend,
Last week, I wrote to you about the Voter Vouching Transparency Act, which would require states with voter vouching policies, like Minnesota, to report basic information to the U.S. Election Assistance Commission about the vouching practices used in federal elections. This week, I am writing to you about the Department of Justice’s (DOJ) recent indictments of noncitizens for voting in multiple Minnesota elections.
Recently, the DOJ announced that a federal grand jury indicted ten individuals for voter fraud, charging them with false claims of citizenship in order to vote in Minnesota’s elections, including the 2022 and 2024 general elections and the 2026 primary election. This confirms what commonsense Minnesotans have known all along: Minnesota’s elections are not secure, and it’s Minnesota’s lenient election policies that got us here.
In response to these recent indictments, I led Minnesota’s Republican congressional delegation in sending a letter to Governor Tim Walz and Minnesota Secretary of State Steve Simon, demanding that they take action to secure our state’s election process. It’s simple, only citizens should be able to vote in our elections.
This is not the first time that we have written to Governor Walz and Secretary Simon about our concerns in Minnesota’s elections. We have been sounding the alarm on this issue for years. In 2024, we wrote to them after Minnesota’s driver's licenses for all and automatic voter registration policies were implemented and reports of noncitizens receiving primary ballots followed. The combination of these two policies opened the floodgates to voter fraud. With consistent reports of various election fraud year after year, we are urging our state leaders to take election security seriously. It should be easy to vote and hard to cheat.
I won’t stop fighting for safe, secure elections. It’s time Governor Walz and Secretary Simon do the same.
Sincerely,
