Biden Team Crafts 2021 Vaccine Logistics Amid Distrust of Trump
From Bloomberg
Joe Biden’s advisers are developing plans to distribute a coronavirus vaccine if he were to win the election as the Democratic nominee’s campaign monitors the Trump administration’s effort to deliver a drug for signs of political interference, according to two Biden advisers.
Biden’s health team, many of whom worked in the administration of President Barack Obama, are leveraging decades-long relationships with U.S. government officials to keep tabs on President Donald Trump’s initiative to deliver a vaccine in record time, the people said.
The group includes some of the officials who oversaw pandemics and preparedness in the Obama administration, many of whom still have contacts within the U.S. government. Among them are Nicole Lurie, the former assistant secretary for preparedness and response under Obama; Vivek Murthy, the former U.S. surgeon general and David Kessler, a former commissioner of the Food and Drug Administration.

PICK HICK!
Updates and Fast Facts from John Hickenlooper for Senate
|
THIS WEEK ON THE CAMPAIGN TRAIL:
Hickenlooper & Coloradans Call on Gardner to “Get to Work”
The Senate finally returned to Washington after their month-long recess so John united with teachers, veterans, small business owners, and La Junta Mayor Jeffri Pruyn to call on Senator Gardner to act immediately to deliver long-delayed COVID relief.
More than 100 days ago, Senator Gardner said it was “unfathomable” to go on recess without passing COVID relief, yet that’s exactly what they’ve done — multiple times. Months later, Senator Gardner has still failed to pass *any* additional COVID relief.
|
Hick Visits Minority-Owned Small Businesses in Aurora
Earlier this week, John visited several minority-owned small businesses in Aurora and heard about the impacts of COVID-19 and the frustration towards the Senate's inaction. The Senate still doesn’t have any real plan to get relief to the millions of Americans who are struggling to pay the bills, put food on the table, and make their rent and mortgages.
Small businesses told John “they got nothing from the past relief package” as Senator Gardner offered only empty words. John called out Gardner for leaving minority-owned small businesses behind.

Denver’s Fox 31 and Aurora’s Sentinel Colorado reported on John’s small business stops and you can read the coverage HERE and HERE.

JOIN THE ELBOW BUMPERS CLUB!
|
What's the Elbow Bumpers Club (formerly known as the High Fivers Club), you ask? It started with a simple idea: There are nearly 1.2 million registered Democrats in Colorado -- what if every single one of them gave just $5 a month to the Colorado Democratic Party (CDP)?
Answer: The CDP would be the best-funded state party in the country -- with zero dollars from corporate PACs and plenty for flipping red seats to blue!

Suggested Reading of the Week

Looking for some reading to help yourself stay woke this election cycle? Check out Mindf*ck: Cambridge Analytica and the Plot to Break America. We've talked often about how Trump, the GOP, and foreign bad actors use social media to divide Dems and suppress our voter turnout.
Now, you can read about how Cambridge Analytica -- the firm that used Colorado has a testing ground in 2014 to deliver a U.S. Senate win for Cory Gardner and the state Senate to the Republicans -- did just that. By stealing data on every American, they created behavioral profiles for purposes of psychological warfare. The funded interests behind these campaign are aimed to divide us, circulate conspiracy theories and suppress the vote.

Bennet, Neguse Push for Enhanced SNAP Benefits
|
Guest opinion: Michael Bennet and Joe Neguse: Expand SNAP during this crisis
In the Daily Camera
In the worst economic and public health crisis in a century, one in three Colorado families does not have enough to eat. This is not only at war with our values, it undermines our response to the pandemic.
Under normal circumstances, proper nutrition is vital to help infants develop and give kids the energy to excel in and out of school. During a pandemic, it’s critical to ensure everyone has a healthy immune system to resist COVID-19. Put simply, strengthening nutrition and fighting the pandemic go hand in hand.
The same is true for supporting our economy. Every dollar spent to help a vulnerable child or family eat is a dollar for our farmers, local groceries, and the millions of workers they employ. As we help families eat, we help stabilize the economy.

Mitsch Bush Pens Op-Ed Defending Healthcare

Health care is on the ballot this November
In the Grand Junction Sentinel
On Aug. 28, the Grand Junction Daily Sentinel editorial board challenged me to explain “how innovation would be retained” under my health-care plan and if I would use a bipartisan approach to solve problems in our health-care system.
First, I do not believe that the best path forward is the elimination of private insurance. Many Coloradans have private health insurance that they like, and some have good employer-provided insurance plans thanks to organizing by labor unions. I will never support a health-care plan that eliminates private insurance companies, and innovation in the health-care sector can continue among public and private entities under my plan.
Still, health-care premiums in Colorado’s 3rd Congressional District are some of the highest in the country. Our current health-care system isn’t working for many people. We must provide Coloradans with more options so that they can access the critical care they need — especially in the middle of a global pandemic. That’s why I support allowing Coloradans to buy into a public option or Medicare.

Freudian Slip? Trump Campaign Uses Photo of Russian Soldiers in "Support the Troops" Ad
|
Trump ad asks people to support the troops. But it uses a picture of Russian jets.
From Politico
A digital ad released by a fundraising arm of the Trump campaign on Sept. 11 calling on people to “support our troops” uses a stock photo of Russian-made fighter jets and Russian models dressed as soldiers.
The ad, which was made by the Trump Make America Great Again Committee, features silhouettes of three soldiers walking as a fighter jet flies over them. The ad first appeared on Sept. 8 and ran until Sept. 12.
“That’s definitely a MiG-29,” said Pierre Sprey, who helped design both the F-16 and A-10 planes for the U.S. Air Force. “I’m glad to see it’s supporting our troops.”

Gardner Straight Up Lies on Pre-Existing Conditions.

Republican senators in tough races obscure their position on pre-existing conditions
From NBC News
Republican senators facing tough re-election fights this fall are expressing support for insurance protections for people with pre-existing medical conditions, running ads at odds with their own recent votes and policy positions.
The latest example came Tuesday when Sen. Cory Gardner, R-Colo., who has voted repeatedly to repeal the Obamacare law that established those federal protections, released an emotional ad in which he sits with his mother and discusses her successful battle with cancer.
"Cory wrote the bill to guarantee coverage to people with pre-existing conditions — forever," she says, looking directly at the camera.
"No matter what happens to Obamacare," the senator adds.
But experts say the bill he cites doesn't do that.

Boebert Scared to Debate DMB?
Offers Staffer for Congressional Debate.
|
Mitsch Bush and Boebert at Odds Over Scheduling Debates
From KREX
Aaro adds like the forum in June, this forum would be for all League of Women Voters chapters across the 3rd Congressional District. Aaro said the Mitsch Bush campaign did get back to her with a date of Oct. 8, and she pitched it to Boebert’s team.
“We went back to the Boebert campaign and said, ‘How’s Oct. 8?’ They responded by offering the campaign’s communication director as a substitute for the candidate,” Aaro said.”The league does not allow substitutes for candidates in our candidate forum.”
Because both candidates have not agreed to being at the League of Women Voters, the forum has no set date yet, but Aaro is still offering to hold the forum for Boebert and Mitsch Bush if both candidates agree.
