The Arctic National Wildlife Refuge comprises almost 20 million acres of pristine wilderness -- home to polar bears, moose, eagles, beavers, migratory birds, and hundreds more species. Some of those species are critically endangered -- and all of them have enjoyed life in relative tranquility alongside Alaska's indigenous populations.

But Donald Trump has now moved to open these natural lands to Big Oil and Big Gas companies. The Center for American Progress reports that selling off the lands to the fossil fuel industry will release over 4 billion metric tons of carbon dioxide -- approximately 75% of the United States' annual carbon emissions.

Lawsuits led by 15 states and Alaska's Gwich'in Tribes have already been filed. But the Trump administration isn't backing down -- and Trump's Secretary of the Interior has said drilling operations, once begun, will last for the next 50 years.
