Donald Trump demanded that Republicans in states across the country tear up their maps and redraw congressional districts in the middle of the decade to give themselves the upper hand.

Here’s the thing: Thanks to the leadership of Attorney General Holder and the quick, aggressive action from the National Democratic Redistricting PAC, the Republican gerrymandering scheme failed. Together, we organized, we got the word out, and we even shut down Republican attempts to rig maps. We passed countermeasures to ensure that the true will of the people gets heard. We stood up and fought for our representative democracy, and we’re still fighting today.

And you know what? In spite of the rotten politics and dirty tricks from the other side, we are in a position to win back the House of Representatives in November.

That’s not why I’m writing today. The truth is, we now know that the GOP has a plan they intend to put in motion as soon as the midterms end. They’re already laying the groundwork to advance new gerrymanders in several states — even in states that just redrew their map a year ago.

The lesson they’re learning from this year isn’t that they need better policies that actually help the American people. No, Republicans have decided they simply didn’t cheat hard enough.
