Over the next week, friend, my team and I are going to share with you how the daughter of a small business owner and homemaker became the Pennsylvania State Senator of the 37th District.

I was born and raised in a suburb of Pittsburgh. My dad was the son of immigrants from Italy. My mother’s grandparents were immigrants from Ireland. My dad was a small business owner; at different times a dry cleaning shop, a tavern, but my favorite was the pizza shop where both of my parents worked and I loved the days when I got to ‘help out.’ My parents worked hard and passed along that value. And my parents both shared a commitment to Democratic politics and were the local party Chairs.

I am the youngest of three children and definitely grew up looking up to my older sister and brother. The importance of education was instilled in all of us. I attended Gettysburg College and earned a degree in Political Science having caught an interest in government and policy from my parents and at our dinner table.

After college I headed to Navy Officer Candidate School, graduated with Distinction, and launched - unbeknownst to me at the time - a career in public service. The Navy provided me with education, purpose, and experience that truly helped guide me on a path to realize my potential. With my military career launched, I eventually rose to the rank of Captain in the Navy -- but we’ll get to that part of my story next time.

Can you chip in to my campaign so I can continue the great work we’ve just begun in the State Senate? You can use this link to give:

I’m sharing my story with you because I believe my story is not that different from many of yours. I learned the value of hard work from my parents, the importance of education, and that finding purpose, laid the foundation for the commitment I bring to the job every day serving the residents of my district.

I love my community, and I’m coming up on a tough re-election fight in November and could really use your help to win. Can you chip in $25 today to keep my campaign going strong?

Thank you, and stay tuned for the next chapter in my story!

Pam grew up here in Western Pennsylvania and served for more than 20 years in the U.S. Navy. After leaving the military, Pam continued to serve in a Senate-confirmed position as Assistant Secretary of the Department of Veterans Affairs. And most recently, she served as the Director of Veterans Services right here in Allegheny County. We have a real opportunity to re-elect a Democratic veteran and public servant to the State Senate — but we need your help. Chip in right now to help Pam Iovino win this election.
