This is horrific.
On Monday, a whistleblower revealed the mass forced sterilization happening at an ICE detention center in Georgia.
Forced sterilization is a tool of oppression and white supremacy, with a long, abominable history in this country. Non-consensual hysterectomies are rooted in eugenics and racism; the practice is horrific and cruel, and it strips away people’s most fundamental human rights.
We need to hold ICE and this Administration accountable for this wanton inhumanity, and it’s why I led the call for a Congressional investigation into what has occurred in Georgia.
But our outrage in this moment is not enough — we need to dismantle a broken immigration system that perpetuates violence and devalues the lives of immigrants.

The current occupant of the White House has targeted, ostracized, and harmed immigrant communities since before he even took office. Family separation, an unjust border wall, a ‘Muslim Ban,’ and now the forced sterilization of immigrants held in detention centers. The Administration has made our country a more hostile place for immigrants.
We must abolish ICE, end immigrant detention, and move toward a system of immigration that is centered on human rights, compassion, and dignity.
