The media and the Democrats have called this the year of the
woman. They have in mind to elect extreme liberal women. But wait
until you meet these two powerful ladies with a conservative mission
to shake up the General Assembly! These two candidates are both
incredible women who share our North Carolina values, have impressive
backgrounds, and who will be champions for conservative principles in
the General Assembly. We need strong, conservative women like this
leading our state!
We like them so much, that we traveled across the State to
interview them for tonight's episode of The Voice, which airs at 7:30
p.m.! I hope you will join us by tuning in on our website, our
Facebook page, our YouTube channel, or Twitter to meet these amazing
candidates!
Why should you care if you don't live in House District 82 or
Senate District 37? Because these are two swing districts, and winning
these seats could well determine whether the majority in the House and
Senate is Republican or Democrat. Losing these two seats would be
devastating to our values as Christians because the opponents of these
two strong women have radical ideas about how to govern our
state.
Kristin Baker—House District 82
Kristin a medical doctor who has lived in Concord for over 20
years with her husband, also a physician, where they raised their
three grown children. She describes herself as "a pro-life Christian,
lifelong Republican, and political outsider." Representative Baker has
served Cabarrus County families as a Board of Trustees member for
Cannon School and volunteered with Present Age Ministries focused on
helping victims of sex trafficking. She is a Morehead Scholar who
graduated Phi Beta Kappa from UNC-Chapel Hill, where she also received
her medical degree. She completed her Psychiatry Residency through
the Washington University School of Medicine and is board certified in
both General Adult Psychiatry and Child Adolescent Psychiatry.
Dr. Baker was appointed to the seat in House District 82, after
Representative Linda Johnson passed away in March. Her goals in the
General Assembly include:
- To cut taxes and protect taxpayer dollars
- Fix healthcare with private sector solutions
- Crackdown on sanctuary cities and human traffickers
- Defend the 2nd Amendment, the right to life, and religious
liberties
- Invest in students, teachers, and stronger schools
Kristin Baker's opponent is a pastor's wife, Aimy Steele, who has
been endorsed by LGBT champion-Equality NC, pro-abortion groups:
Emily's List, Lillian's List, and Planned Parenthood, and some
dark-money groups seeking to turn North Carolina from a red state to a
blue state. Aimy Steele recently signed the pledge sponsored by a
Democrat group called "Future Now" to defund the Police. The contrast
between her pro-abortion, pro-LGBT, defund-the-police agenda and
Kristin Baker's goals could not be starker.
Sonja
Nichols—Senate District 37
Sonja has lived in Charlotte for 20 years with her husband who is
a Private Wealth Division executive at Bank of America. She has three
grown children. She describes herself as "an accomplished
businesswoman, published author, active community leader,... and a
bridge between diverse communities." Sonja is the president and CEO
of Nicholant Enterprises, a security-services firm staffed entirely by
U.S. military veterans. Prior to founding Nicholant Enterprises, Sonja
worked as a system engineer for IBM and a marketing representative for
PepsiCo. Sonja earned her Bachelor of Science degree in Accounting,
and an MBA in Marketing and Computer Information Systems from Florida
A&M University. She also completed the University of Richmond's
Executive Management Program. Sonja started an angel investment firm
to help minority business start-ups and has led many non-profits
in the community.
Sonja Nichols' priorities in the State Senate will be:
- Affordable housing and healthcare
- Job creation
- Support for Veterans
- Pro-business and low taxes
- Education funding
Sonja Nichols' opponent is sitting State Senator Jeff Jackson, who
was endorsed by the Sierra Club and pro-LGBT activist group Equality,
NC, and marched in the streets with Black Lives Matters. He intends to
take the State in a very different direction from the direction Sonja
Nichols will lead.
As you can see, these are two amazing women, and we expect them
to be real leaders in their caucuses as well as champions for North
Carolina values. It is with high honor that the North Carolina Values
Coalition endorses Dr. Kristin Baker for House District 82 and Sonja
Nichols for Senate District 37.
