Today is Grandparents Day, the national holiday that celebrates grandparents and all of the “grand” relationships that keep our families together.

John,

I’ve always been a political junkie, so it’s no surprise that I’m excited for the 2020 election, which is just 48 days away. (Not that I’m counting.)

But this year, I won’t be thinking about the usual things I think about while voting. I’ll be thinking about my family, which includes my dad, who had coronavirus, my mom, who is high-risk, and my sister, who was furloughed early in the pandemic. My family includes high-risk people with disabilities (like myself), my 93-year-old grandma who lives in a retirement community, and my uncle who is an essential worker.

I’m a #CareVoter because when I vote, I think about my family and the people I love, and how I can use my vote to make the country a better place for them.

Why are you a #CareVoter? Who will you be thinking about when you vote, on Election Day or before? Let us know why you’re a #CareVoter today.

Any one of us who thinks about care issues — like paid leave, or caregiving, nursing home conditions, or child care — is a #CareVoter. Some of us are caregivers who need real support as we care for our loved ones, including our grandparents. Some of us are grandparents who are caregivers, stepping in to help with our grandchildren and kids in our communities. Some of us are parents, relying on our own parents for help with our children. We are all members of the Caring Majority.

And if we’ve learned one thing this year — amidst the pandemic, uprisings, natural disasters — it’s that our patchwork care system lets all of us down. We all deserve better, and together we can make a caring future a reality.

Tell us why you’re a #CareVoter today.
