Twenty years aboard combatant ships will teach you some vocabulary they leave out of the recruiting brochures. I've mostly kept it to myself on this campaign. Mostly.
Then Jen Kiggans started spreading lies about my record.
The first time, I rolled my eyes. By the third or fourth, I'd said a few things my teenage daughter is not allowed to repeat. It went roughly like this:
"#$%&@!"
Here's the version I can put in writing. This is my actual record:
I flipped VA-02 in 2018 and was ranked one of the most effective members of Congress my freshman year
I secured $455 million to restore the Chesapeake Bay
I helped pass the PACT Act, expanding healthcare and benefits for veterans
I served on the January 6th Committee, knowing it could cost my re-election
Kiggans can't run on her own record, so she's attempting to rewrite mine. She's counting on voters across Hampton Roads being too busy to check.
With me, what you see is what you get. I'll tell you when I think something's wrong. I'll tell you when I've made a mistake. And I'll tell you, plainly, when someone is lying about my record. But a lie is cheap to make and expensive to correct.
The other side is pummeling us — $6.5 million spent and counting.
Setting the record straight means getting the truth on TV, in mailboxes, and on doorsteps, and we have 29 days to do it.
Will you chip in $25 to help us set the record straight before voters head to the polls?
I'll keep my language clean from here on out. Probably.
Pardon my French,
Elaine Luria
