Join us on our journey - Material Change

Hi there,

In the face of wildfires, a global pandemic, and continued racial injustice, the world might feel dark right now — but I want to know that you are not alone.

Social science tells us that when 3.5% of any given population [[link removed]] stand up to say they’ve had enough, change will come. Now more than ever, it’s clear how interconnected we all are, how our actions — no matter how small they may seem — can send ripples throughout the rest of the world. Together, we can harness the power of community to create lasting systemic change.

The Only One platform was born out of exactly this kind of collaboration. In 2019, three organizations — Blue Sphere Foundation, Lonely Whale, and SeaLegacy — joined forces to establish Only One. The platform is a shared space, home to stories, solutions, and opportunities to take community action to protect the ocean, tackle the climate crisis, and help build a more just, equitable planet.

Our first journey? Material Change [[link removed]]. It’s not about simply changing from plastic to another material, it’s about making a material change to the entire system. I really hope you will join us and find community, connection, and a new way to channel your passion into climate action.

Caring for people and the planet demands a new spirit of collaboration, centered on justice and equity, and with a renewed commitment to those most affected.

Through Material Change we will explore how to create systemic change across four key areas:

Individuals demonstrate through their actions and advocacy their expectations for what brands and policymakers need to deliver

Manufacturers embrace a circular economy, ensuring their products are fully recoverable and recyclable and minimizing and accounting for the full cost of their activities

Policymakers advance legislation that put people and the planet first by supporting sustainable industries, practices, and materials and invest in their communities

Extractive industries are held accountable for their actions that have taken value from communities for generations

There has never been a more critical time to act [[link removed]] - or more hopeful. At Lonely Whale, we have a vision for our shared future, one that challenges our understanding of even the most familiar subjects and pushes us to look creatively at solutions.

We’re so grateful that you’ve been a part of our extended family since we began and we hope that you will join us at Only One - the newest chapter of our journey.

With gratitude,
