We are seeing wildfires in Northern California that make our eyes burn and our lungs heave. Homelessness is skyrocketing. And still, the political establishment is focused on personal attacks and special interests, rather than the issues of our day. 

But we are on the brink of a historic change: a grassroots movement that will push our city forward to address the urgent crises facing our community and planet. We can get to carbon neutrality in 5 years rather than 30. We can end homelessness by taxing the folks who have the most, instead of threatening to put the unhoused in jail. And we can get corporate PAC money out of politics. 

The only thing that can change this, and shake the establishment, is a grassroots movement. That’s why I’m asking you today to take a shift of phone banking or door knocking, so we can get our vision out there to the people of Berkeley. We only have 50 days left.
