“The massive undercurrent in all of these riots is that of anarchy, and the anarchists are riding or sometimes even creating the waves of discontent with a singular goal of achieving their dystopia,” says TPPF’s Randy Petersen. “Their intent to overthrow the government can only occur if they are able to convince the general population, or a large sympathetic portion of it at least, that their government can no longer protect them. But it’s not that the police can’t protect them; it’s that the politicians won’t.”

Bang for the Ban?

What to Know: Former Vice President Joe Biden says he wants to reinstate the “assault weapons” ban of the 1990s.

The TPPF Take: There’s no evidence the assault weapons ban decreased homicide rates.

“As the election nears, the call for policymakers to ‘do something’ about gun crime has steadily grown louder,” says TPPF’s Derek Cohen. “But the truth is that none of the policies being proposed are likely to have a meaningful impact. Moreover, many of the proposals that have been floated recently would directly infringe on the right to bear arms and self-defense as explicitly enumerated in the United States and Texas constitutions.”

The TPPF Take: Regulatory reform will help revive and restore the U.S. economy.

“Reform—such as the executive order signed by the president in May—should help empower people and protect them from undue, expensive, unclear regulatory overreach by the federal government, which costs Americans trillions of dollars over time,” says TPPF’s Vance Ginn.
