Hello John,

1,189. In a city of over 1.3 million people, that’s the margin of victory that enabled Barbara to qualify for the November mayoral run-off. And six months later, according to the most recent polls, she has a narrow lead to win the run-off.

I mention the number 1,189 because it’s a reminder of how just a few votes per precinct can make the difference between winning and losing.

And it’s a reminder of the challenge we face opposing the institutional advantages of the local Democratic Party power-brokers, who are directing more than a million dollars of dark money (no contribution limits, hundreds of thousands from special interest groups that have a stake in preserving the status quo) to support our opponent.

One of the reasons our campaign has so much momentum right now is San Diego voters appreciate Barbara’s independence from those traditional special interests who are funding the dark money attacks on her candidacy.

And that’s why your individual contributions are so important in leveling the playing field and giving Barbara a chance to prevail on November 3.

Here’s another number: September 19. It’s a very important deadline for reporting campaign contributions.
