Dear John,
|
If President Trump was a real friend of Social Security and America's middle class he wouldn't have promised to do this:
"If victorious on November 3rd, I plan to forgive these taxes and make permanent cuts to the payroll tax… I'm going to make them all permanent."
Because without the payroll tax there is no Social Security. The Trust Fund would simply dry up … benefits would not be paid. And we would be forced to return to a time when many older Americans lived in poverty.
According to a new analysis, if payroll taxes were "eliminated" as the President promised to do if he's re-elected, the Social Security Trust Fund would run dry in 2023 — that's 12 years earlier than the latest projection by the Social Security Trustees!
President Trump has repeatedly broken the promise he made as then candidate Trump not to touch Social Security. And he's shown a disturbing willingness to tamper with Social Security's dedicated revenue stream to try to fund other fiscal priorities and programs. The President's actions demonstrate that he either doesn't know or doesn't care about Social Security!
Either way, the benefits that workers and retirees like you have paid into and earned during their entire working lives should be OFF LIMITS!
That's why the National Committee is counting on you to help us ramp up our battle against the President's payroll tax cut executive order and his reckless efforts targeting Social Security by chipping in a gift of $10 or $5.
Now is not the time — in fact, it is never the time — to tamper with a program that more than 40% of retirees rely upon for all of their income.
This is a clear and imminent threat to Social Security and the millions of Americans who rely on their earned benefits for their economic survival — and together we'll stop it!
Right now my staff and I are in contact with our allies in Congress — lawmakers on both sides of the political aisle — who understand the seriousness of this threat and are not about to let the President renege on our government's obligation to workers and retirees. But we must keep the pressure on!
John, as you know, our work is 100% supported by retirees and working Americans like you, all across the country — so please give what you can today to help us defeat any effort by the Trump Administration to terminate the payroll tax and destroy Social Security as we know it.

Sincerely, |
