“The Problem Solvers Proposal could show the way” - The Washington Post ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌  ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌

Friend,

Something exceptional and unexpected happened in Washington today, where leaders have been deadlocked over a new COVID-19 relief bill. After weeks of private negotiations, the House Problem Solvers – with 25 Democrats and 25 Republicans – today released a compromise proposal bridging the divide on the thorniest issues, including: aid to small businesses, schools, cities and states; unemployment benefits; and funding for election security.

It is no coincidence that Speaker Nancy Pelosi also just announced the chamber will stay in session “until we have a bill” that can be supported by both parties. Negotiations appeared dead but they are now alive thanks to this shot of bipartisan momentum from the Problem Solvers. The American people want a bipartisan deal. And when you read the heartbreaking stories of families being evicted and small businesses failing amid this pandemic, it is so obvious they need this deal.

This is not mission accomplished. This is Washington, and there is no guarantee a bill will get to the president’s desk. But if it does, it will be because of the tireless and often thankless work the Problem Solvers did this summer, and the work No Labels has done for years to help build up this Caucus and support its members.
