I’m writing to ask you to help me celebrate my twin sons’ — Julián and Joaquin’s — birthdays tomorrow. I’m so proud of everything they have accomplished, and I know they couldn’t have done it without your support.

When Julián and Joaquin were born, I had no idea how I was going to raise twin boys. As an activist and community organizer, I had my hands full with rallies and community meetings, fighting for civil rights for Mexican-Americans and women during the Chicano Movement. But today, I couldn’t be prouder that my sons went into public service and continue to fight for a future where people are put first.

Almost 100 years ago, my mother and Julián and Joaquin’s grandmother came to the U.S. seeking a better life. She didn’t have a dollar to her name, but she worked as a maid, a cook, and a babysitter so that I could live my dreams and my sons could live theirs.

Two generations later, Joaquin is a member of Congress fighting for the people of San Antonio, and Julián served in the president’s cabinet, ran for president, and is working hard to elect great candidates across the country. Our family has lived the American dream, and now my sons are working hard to make sure more Americans get that opportunity.

I’m so grateful that Julián and Joaquin have great supporters like you fighting for a better future for our country. Help me celebrate their birthday by pitching in what you can to help them elect more Democrats this November.
