Hello, True Texans!
Here’s a revelation: I’m not like you.
You’re not like me either.
We have different motivations that brought us to True Texas Project. For some people it’s overspending and taxation. For others it’s abortion. Or it may be gun rights, or vaccine freedom, or crazy LGBTXYZ nonsense. Or maybe you got mad at an elected person for something personal. A lot of us are here because our faith compels us to act when we see an injustice. You could even be just one of those political junkies that does activism for fun!
But we’re different for more than that. Some of us are Boomers and regretting not doing more to leave a legacy for the next generation. Thankfully they have some extra funds to help the cause, plus lots of time to volunteer. Some of us are Gen X’rs. We’re hyper-critical and just don’t know how to sit down and quit fighting, but we’ve got the work ethic to get any job done. The Millennials get the worst rap for being lazy, but they are slowly realizing they’re inheriting a mess and waking up to the need to work. And those Zoomers… they are laser-focused, terribly judge-y, and (rightly) insisting everyone get on the straight and narrow.
Speaking of the straight and narrow, I could further divide us by talking about religion... those Catholics who believe they have the only true church, the Baptists who love to preach but fail to act, the Mormons who… well… have some of the downright silliest beliefs in many of our eyes (like special underwear), the Methodists who throw all morality out the window in the name of “love”, the Jews who so often are the ones behind the corruption we fight, the Muslims we can never fully trust because lying is part of their culture, and the Hindus who seem kind until you dig into the wicked, wicked gods they worship.
We’ve got Libertarians, Republicans, and Independents.
We've got people who have voted in every election since age 18... and those who don’t yet know the difference between a Primary and a General.
Some have run for office, some have held office, some will show up to tell off those in office.
Some campaign…others complain.
Some are great about giving encouragement and prayer and joy. Some share reality in harsh doses but keep everyone focused.
Ok… have I successfully ticked off everyone yet?
That was the goal because I'm trying to make a point. It’s easy to put everyone in a pre-defined box and judge them, for better or for worse. Everywhere I go, someone is complaining to me about someone else. “If we could just get rid of those __________ (fill in the blank) everything would be better.”
Guys, it breaks my heart. It really does. I’m not gonna lie and say none of our True Texans annoy me. Of course they do! I get frustrated with people just like you do. But "we" are all we’ve got. We either work together or lose.
Wait… didn’t someone else say this? Have we forgotten our history?
