Prisha’s story is a tragic tale of our time. She was misled by online groomers, counselors, and doctors into believing that she had a male brain and that she could change her body to become a boy. Subsequently, she underwent hormone treatment and a double mastectomy. These procedures left her with permanent physical injuries, including extensive chest scarring and an inability to breastfeed, chronic pain, and vaginal atrophy.
Prisha detransitioned when she realized that she, in fact, would never be a man and wanted to be a mother. She filed a medical malpractice and fraud lawsuit against the healthcare providers and counselors involved for the permanent physical and psychological harm done to her.
Sadly, her case was initially dismissed as untimely. But NC Values and other advocates lobbied the North Carolina General Assembly to change state law to extend the time in which victims like Prisha can file medical claims related to sex-rejecting procedures.
Now, she is fighting for another chance at justice.
Prisha’s case could not be more timely.
North Carolina passed a law in 2023 restricting sex-rejecting medical procedures for minors. Yet a recent federal report indicates that three North Carolina providers have continued providing or billing for harmful sex-rejecting procedures involving minors like the ones Prisha underwent despite those restrictions.
That is why cases like Prisha’s matter.
Medical providers and counselors need to be held accountable when they perform experimental and harmful interventions on minors. This case matters because it will discourage health providers who are ideological activists from performing gender-transition procedures that do harm instead of good for profit.
