Organizing for the 2020 elections isn’t just about getting Donald Trump out of the White House. It’s about building a more just and equitable future for our neighborhoods and our communities, here in Chicagoland and across the country.

With eviction protections for Illinois expiring on Sunday, September 20th, Chicagoland is facing as many as 50,000 potential eviction cases in 2020. Behind each case is a person and su familia, losing their home, their security, and their stability all at once. We can and we must do better for those facing the threat of eviction.

The eviction crisis we face didn’t happen overnight: it’s the result of decades of discriminatory housing policy that leaves Black and Latino communities behind. It took more than ten years for our community to recover from the last major housing crisis. Some of our neighbors still haven’t fully recovered from the devastation that comes with an eviction or a foreclosure. But we need to organize and elect leaders to stand for our communities now, John.
