Friend,

The largest steel plant in American history is going to be built with iron ore from Minnesota’s Iron Range. But the plant, and its estimated 1,750 jobs, are going to Iowa.

President Trump announced plans for a new $15 billion steel complex in eastern Iowa, a right to work state, that will use iron ore mined from Minnesota [[link removed]] . This complex will be built by Mesabi Metallics: a company based in Minnesota and owned by India’s Essar Group. The White House claims [[link removed]] the complex will produce up to 10 million tons a year, create 1,750 permanent jobs, and up to 6,000 construction jobs in Iowa. But the steel will be made using iron ore from Mesabi Metallic’s new $2.5 billion mine in Nashwauk, Minnesota.

Iowa gets the mill, the paychecks, and the future that comes with them. Rep. Pete Stauber calls it a “missed opportunity” for northern Minnesota [[link removed]] , while claiming that Minnesota’s state leadership is responsible for the project going elsewhere. Stauber left out that the project is being backed in federal financing, was approved by his Republican allies, and Washington helped write this deal. Our representative should have been demanding to bring it home to Minnesota and union jobs.

Minnesota should NOT settle for mining the ore while other states get the manufacturing jobs and investment that comes from turning that resource into finished steel . WE HAVE THE IRON ORE, UNION WORKERS, AND THE KNOWLEDGE TO KEEP THE COMPLEX WITHIN MINNESOTA.

As your Congresswoman, Trina will fight to make Minnesota a place where companies invest and communities share in the economic opportunity created by our own resources. That is what opportunity at home means.

If you believe Minnesota workers should benefit while billions of dollars are invested into Minnesota resources, join and support Trina’s campaign today.
