Dear John,

I recently emailed you to ask you to join us in our work to end child poverty.
Whether you have children, grandchildren, nieces or nephews in school or not, we
can all agree that every child should be able to make the most of their schooldays. While education is free, school should not be a source of additional stress for
families already struggling to make ends meet.

Currently, nine children in every classroom of 30 are living in poverty. This
affects children’s experiences at school; from getting dressed in the morning to
coming home and doing homework in the evening, families are faced with a range
of extra costs that stem from parts of the school day. Not being able to meet
these costs can lock children out from the opportunities and experiences readily
taken up and enjoyed by others who can afford them.

Unequal access to learning and opportunities at school means unequal outcomes
for our children.

Poverty limits what children can do and take part in at school.

This is why CPAG launched its Cost of the School Day project five years ago in
Scotland. Since then, we’ve been working with children, parents and teachers in
schools across Scotland to identify action schools can take which help tackle
financial barriers to children’s participation, learning and wellbeing
throughout the school day.

And from next month, we will be scaling up our work to 155 schools across
England, Scotland and Wales, taking the successes of the Cost of the School Day
project across the country, working in partnership with Children North East.

Please donate now to CPAG

School is a huge part of a child’s world. Schools alone cannot end child
poverty, but schools can make a difference to the lives of pupils, reducing and removing barriers that
get in the way of a child’s educational experience.

Your support has already helped CPAG achieve real and lasting change to the
lives of children across the country. With more children becoming locked into
poverty, we need your donations more than ever .

Thank you for your generosity.

Yours sincerely,

Kate Anstey
