Invitation to the OSCE’s annual human rights conferenceWARSAW, 5 September 2019 – Media representatives are invited to the annual human rights conference of the OSCE Office for Democratic Institutions and Human Rights (ODIHR). It is a unique platform for international organizations, governments and civil society to meet and discuss human rights challenges within their own countries and across the 57 states that make up the OSCE region. This year’s keynote speaker will be Lech Wałęsa, the leader of the Solidarity movement that paved the way for the democratic transformations of 1989.
What:
- Over 1,500 representatives of OSCE participating State governments and civil society from across the OSCE region will spend two weeks debating the most pressing human rights challenges of our time at the Human Dimension Implementation Meeting (HDIM) .
- This year’s special focus topics are safety of journalists, hate crime and Roma & Sinti.
- There will be a photo/filming opportunity on the first day of the conference with the keynote speaker Lech Wałęsa and ODIHR Director Ingibjörg Sólrún Gísladóttir.
Who:
The following speakers will take part in the opening session:
- Lech Wałęsa, President of Poland in 1990-1995;
- Miroslav Lajčák, Foreign Minister of Slovakia and OSCE Chairperson-in-Office;
- Jacek Czaputowicz, Foreign Minister of Poland;
- Thomas Greminger, OSCE Secretary General;
- Harlem Désir, OSCE Representative on Freedom of the Media;
- Lamberto Zannier, OSCE High Commissioner on National Minorities;
- George Tsereteli, President of the OSCE Parliamentary Assembly; and
- Ingibjörg Sólrún Gísladóttir, ODIHR Director.
When:
- 16 to 27 September 2019;
- The opening session will begin at 10:00 a.m. on 16 September 2019;
- The photo/filming opportunity will take place at 9:45 a.m. on 16 September, please arrive by 9:00 a.m.
Where:
- Warsaw National Stadium, Aleja Poniatowskiego 1, Gate 1, 2nd floor, plenary hall;
- If you cannot attend in person, the livestream will be available in English and Russian on ODIHR’s Facebook page and website.
How:
- Advance accreditation is obligatory to access the conference venue.
- Press accreditation forms will be accepted until midnight, Friday 12 September 2019.
- You can download the press accreditation form here and email it to [email protected].
- Please bring valid press credentials for registration onsite.
