John, on a long deployment, a sailor's wish list gets very short.
Mail from loved ones, a home-cooked meal, a hot shower. That's about it. Nobody at sea is asking for luxuries. They're asking for the basics to work.
I've been knocking doors across Hampton Roads for months, and the list I hear from folks on their front porches isn't much longer:
- Affordable health coverage that doesn’t leave them high and dry.
- A grocery bill that doesn't make them wince.
- Leaders who keep their promises.
That's not a lot to ask.
Right now, Jen Kiggans is failing on all three counts.
She has voted with Trump 100% of the time this Congress.
- She supported the tariffs that have raised prices on nearly everything families here buy. (The Joint Economic Committee puts the average extra cost of everyday goods for Virginia families at $3,800. I ran a small business here before I ran for Congress, and I know exactly what a cost increase like that does to a family budget or a payroll.)
- She promised to protect access to health care, then voted for the largest Medicaid cuts in history.
- She said she'd extend the ACA tax credits, then voted to let premiums skyrocket.
Here's what I'll fight for in Congress:
- Lower costs. Ending the tariff chaos that's squeezing families at the checkout line and the gas pump.
- Lower drug prices. I voted to let Medicare negotiate drug prices and to cap insulin at $35 a month for seniors. Now we need to go further.
- A ban on members of Congress trading stocks. If you write the rules, you shouldn't get to profit from them.
But I can’t wave a magic wand and make all of this a reality. First, I need a House majority that works for the American people, not the most corrupt president in history.
To that end, Democrats need to flip three seats. VA-02 has to be one of them.
We have 32 days left to flip this seat. Just $10 will help me turn out the voters who will decide this race, take back the House, and put the basics back within reach. Can I count on you to back me up today?
Gratefully,
Elaine Luria
