Dear John,
🔔 WV Can't Wait Movement adopts new measures on policing, moving state dollars toward community safety, and the prosecution of corporate criminals.
Right now, we have two criminal justice systems: one for the rich, and one for the rest of us. Right now, you fare better if you're guilty and rich, than if you're poor and innocent. For Black and Brown folks, the set up is even worse.
That’s not right or fair.
Yet police officers are often directed to spend their time and resources on victimless and low-level crimes, especially in poor white and Black and Brown neighborhoods, while the wealthy, who are rarely targeted for investigation, get off scot-free or with a slap on the wrist.
Those causing the most harm at the largest scales--the rich who steal our money, our health, our land--face few consequences, if any. The examples are stark: it's cheaper for a big corporation to pay fines than follow worker safety regulations.
➡️ Here's our plan to win a criminal justice system that works for all of us: https://wvcantwait.com/prosecute-corruption
This plan includes direct input and suggestions from ex-offenders, social workers, local BLM leaders, public defenders, people in recovery, educators, police, and West Virginia families.
Thanks to the WV Can't Wait Policy Team for translating this feedback into our Platform!
