I’m a lifelong Mississippian and I love our state. But the unfortunate truth is that Mississippi is often overlooked by everyone else.
By any normal standard, we’re running a successful and groundbreaking Senate campaign. But unlike many of the top 2020 Democratic targets, Mississippi isn’t getting the national investment it should.
We can see this attitude in the way national news outlets cover Mississippi. Case in point: As Hurricane Sally makes landfall on the Mississippi Gulf Coast, our beautiful state is referred to as a “landmass” or “a stretch of the Gulf Coast.” It’s like they’re afraid to say the word “Mississippi!"
Well, I’m sick of Mississippi being overlooked. I’m sick of our home being among the least, last, and having less in the country. I’m sick of party leaders counting out the South and Black voters, and signaling that they don’t think a Black man in Mississippi can win. November 3, 2020, is our chance to turn the page in history.
So please,I’m asking: Will you please chip in $20.20 (or less, or more — whatever you can give right now really helps) to our campaign to send me to the U.S. Senate and give Missisisppians the leadership we deserve?
I don’t want to go back to the Mississippi that WAS. I want to leap decades forward to create the Mississippi that WILL BE. That’s why my most important issues are expanding Medicaid, increasing teacher pay, fighting coronavirus, and uplifting ALL Mississippians.
And look, we don’t get the opportunity for change in Mississippi very often. Remember — we can pray for change, but we also have to work for it.
Election Day on November 3, 2020 is our chance to elect new leadership and write a new chapter for our state. But with so many people counting us out, I need your help to win.
Will you please chip in $20.20 (or whatever you can) right now? I am running for U.S. Senate in Mississippi because I want this decade to be a decade of promise and of progress — but I can’t do it alone.
Thanks for all you do.
