Act now to end the drug war
==========================
What you may not know about mass criminalization

Dear Friend,

In this moment of a pandemic and collective action against systemic racism, drug policy reform is more urgent than ever.

Did you know simple drug possession is the single most arrested offense in the country? Policing and enforcement of the drug war has always been racially targeted, with a particularly cruel impact on generations of Black, Latinx, and Indigenous people.

And incarceration is also a dangerous vulnerability in the fight against the pandemic, as COVID-19 has disproportionately impacted people in jails and prisons and in the surrounding community.

As more people wake up and rise up, profound change in our institutions and culture seems more possible than ever before. Now is the time to finally end this disastrous drug war that causes so much pain.

Your support today is vital to help us advocate for drug policy reform and end the war on drugs. Can I count on you to send your first gift to the Drug Policy Alliance? Even $10 a month would help.

DONATE $10/MONTH NOW: [link removed]

Your gift will fuel the Drug Policy Alliance’s fight to end mass incarceration and criminalization in this country. Mass incarceration is just one part of the overall system of mass criminalization, enabled by the war on drugs. Aggressive policing and incarceration are used as default tools for dealing with social problems that can and should be solved by other means. These punitive approaches diminish public safety and disproportionately harm people of color and people who are poor.

Together, you are helping us are make a difference. We’ve:

• With DPA’s political arm, Drug Policy Action, together with local partners spearheaded efforts to get a groundbreaking all drug decriminalization, measure on the 2020 ballot in November in Oregon. If passed it would serve as a model for states across the country.

• Played a role in every successful marijuana legalization ballot initiative to date and continue to advocate for marijuana legalization rooted in equity and justice for Black and Latinx communities, including working with cosponsors to get the MORE Act a vote in Congress.

• Called on Congress to strengthen the George Floyd Justice in Policing Act as it does not go nearly far enough to end drug war-fuel police militarization.

• Drafted and helped pass the country’s first naloxone access law in New Mexico – a landmark, life-saving piece of legislation. Now, all 50 states and D.C have laws making it easier to obtain naloxone.
