Dear friends,

Every day, the team at Our Children’s Trust works hard to ensure that the legal right to a stable climate for youth around the world is protected by their nation’s courts. Next week, our American youth plaintiffs will be asking members of the U.S. Congress to stand with them and support their efforts to protect their fundamental rights.

Our Children’s Trust is launching a Congress4Juliana ([link removed]) campaign in support of the Children’s Fundamental Rights and Climate Recovery Resolution that will be introduced on September 23rd! This U.S. congressional resolution recognizes the fundamental rights of children, the disproportionate impacts from climate change on youth, and the need for national climate recovery planning.

The timing of this resolution has never been more significant than now. This summer, communities across the United States have experienced cataclysmic extreme weather events and natural disasters, from destructive wildfires on the West Coast to a twice-as-active-as-usual hurricane season in the Southeast. The devastating COVID-19 public health pandemic and a renewed national focus on systemic racial injustice further highlight the urgency of addressing climate change and how it intersects with environmental injustice—because children and future generations from all communities, especially vulnerable communities hardest hit by climate change, deserve a safe, healthy, and livable planet on which to thrive.

Join us LIVE on September 23rd at 9:00 am PDT/12:00 pm EDT for a virtual press conference to formally introduce this congressional resolution. Hear from members of the U.S. Congress and Juliana v. United States ([link removed]) youth plaintiffs about why they are excited to support and share this resolution. Register today for this online event HERE: [link removed]!
