Casting your ballot this year may seem challenging in the face of voter suppression efforts, a global pandemic, and more. And still, we must do everything we can to ensure that every voter has the opportunity to safely and securely cast their ballot. One of the ways we can fight for our democracy and protect our right to vote is by making a voting plan and making it early. That’s why we are helping people get #VoteReady.

REGISTER TO VOTE |

Getting registered to vote is the first step, and often first barrier, for many people to access the ballot. We are big believers that voter registration should be accessible and simple. That’s why we fight for policies like automatic voter registration, pre-registration, and online registration. That’s also why we co-created National Voter Registration Day (NVRD) in 2012 and support thousands of college students register their peers to vote through the NVRD Campus Takeover initiative. With just one week to NVRD on September 22nd, now is the time to update your voter registration and register your friends.

| The Alliance has always been a fierce advocate for building a voting system that works for every voter whether it be voting by mail, accessible in person voting, or expanding early voting. The Alliance network has expanded the menu for voting in states like Oregon with pre-paid postage on mail ballots and in Texas with early voting sites on college campuses.
This year, it is more important than ever that people have multiple options to vote safely and securely. We want to ensure that every voter, regardless of their voting method, has a plan for how they are going to cast their ballot and makes that plan as early as possible.

The election is much larger than just the Presidential race. From state representatives to school boards, the 2020 ballot will be packed with federal, state, and local races and potentially amendments or ballot measures. Every race matters. That’s why organizations in the Alliance network are locally-focused—because often we are most impacted by the decisions of local electeds . Do your research and check what’s going to be on your ballot so you can make your voice heard at every level of government.

Once you’ve done everything you can to get #VoteReady, help your community do the same! The Alliance is part of several national efforts to protect our democracy and ensure all voters can access the ballot. In response to a national shortage of poll workers, we are partnering with Power the Polls to recruit young people to work the elections. And to ensure we have plenty of accessible polling sites, we are working with young Poll Defenders across the country to establish new polling sites and defend current ones with the +1 the Polls initiative. To mitigate long lines at the polls, we are partnering with Vote Early Day and encouraging people to vote early.
