Bera on Medicare for All: “I’m not a Socialist” How did Ami Bera’s Florin Town Hall meeting go? A bit cringe-worthy on many fronts. On just health care, Bera again stated he’s clearly not for Medicare for All, but wouldn't specify exactly what he is for. This is much like his campaign Web site that touts his support for something called a “Pathway to Universal Coverage” but with no details. Finally one of the many frustrated constituents asked if Bera was a Democrat. Bera answered. “I am proud to be a Democrat, but I am not a Socialist.” He explained he is for free markets, he believes in competition. What Bera neglected to note is he’s taken more than $1 million in career donations from Big Insurance, Big Pharma and Big Corporate Medicine. And the “free market” those sponsors support feature market consolidation, minimal competition, lower standards of care, inflated consumer costs and windfall profits at the public's expense. This is why most Americans reject Bera’s idea of free democracy and free markets. They know it's all become rigged. And to disagree with crony capitalism apparently means you are sympathizing with socialists. Doesn't that sound more like Trump than a Democrat? But that's all opponents of Medicare for All have. No details about their alternative. Just scare tactics, a rigged system and rigged labeling.
18 days ’Til Our Ballot Signature Drive Starts In two weeks, Burdick for Congress begins our very important signature drive to get Jeff on the ballot. About 2,000 signatures will be needed. It’s also a golden opportunity to spread the campaign's voter-first message and demonstrate how serious we are about ending big donor control of our district. You can volunteer to collect signatures wherever you want. At your local grocery store. In your neighborhood (door to door). At your home (house party). Or co-hosting with Jeff a Saturday morning coffee at the park or coffeehouse of your choice. Email your preference to
