I was cut from the national wheelchair basketball team after the 2004 Paralympics. I spent the next eight years shooting 1,000 hoops a day, every day, until I finally made the team again in 2012.
I learned the hard way that it’s not one high-scoring game or one incredible shot that turns an athlete into a champion.
Real success only comes from practice, practice, practice.
When I decided to run for Senate, I didn’t need to learn that lesson twice. I’ve spent this entire campaign on front porches, factory floors, fairgrounds, and farms across Iowa, laying the groundwork for victory.
That’s why I won’t be hoping for a miracle on Election Night, just over four weeks from today.
My team and I are putting in the work to make it happen.
And when I defeat Ashley Hinson and flip this Senate seat, I’ll bring that athletic discipline to Washington.
But I’m getting ahead of myself. First, I have to continue barnstorming Iowa. Second, I have to persuade the one-third of voters who are still undecided, according to a recent poll, to back me on Election Day.
I have only a month to prepare for the most important match-up I’ve ever faced. If there’s ever been a moment that demands teamwork, it’s right now. Will you pitch in to fuel me up for the final stretch? [ [link removed] ]
